Western Sydney Airport board members reappointed

21 August 2020

Two of Western Sydney Airport’s founding board members have been reappointed for three-year terms.

The new tenures of non-executive directors Mrs Fiona Balfour and Mr Timothy Eddy will see them continue to guide the federally funded infrastructure project into its peak construction and commercial development phase.

Western Sydney Airport Chair Paul O’Sullivan said Mrs Balfour and Mr Eddy’s expertise has been an important part of the project’s success to date.

“I’m pleased that the project will continue to benefit from Fiona and Tim’s considerable experience,” he said.

“The next three years will be critical as work begins on our three remaining major works packages and we continue to develop and implement our passenger aviation, air cargo and our business park commercial propositions.”

Mrs Balfour has more than 35 years of experience across aviation, technology, logistics and corporate governance. She spent 14 years with Qantas, including six years on the executive committee as Chief Information Officer. Mrs Balfour is currently an independent non-executive director of Airservices Australia.

Mr Eddy has more than 30 years of experience in leading and managing in a professional services environment, including as Managing Partner Operations, Oceania and Managing Partner Corporate Finance, Oceania at Ernst & Young. Mr Eddy is currently independent chair of ShineWing Australia, a leading Asia Pacific accounting and advisory firm and a director of Racing Victoria and data and analytics firm The Red Fox Group.

Western Sydney Airport’s board is made up of:

  • Mr Paul O’Sullivan (Chair and Non-Executive Director)
  • Mrs Fiona Balfour (Non-Executive Director)
  • Mr Timonthy Eddy (Non-Executive Director)
  • Mr Vince Graham (Non-Executive Director)
  • Ms Anthea Hammon (Non-Executive Director)
  • Ms Christine Spring (Non-Executive Director)
  • Mr John Weber (Non-Executive Director)

Mr Simon Hickey was appointed as Western Sydney Airport’s Chief Executive Officer in July this year.

The project’s major earthworks phase is well underway and the remaining three major works packages, including terminal and runway construction, are in various stages of procurement and market sounding. Planning for the airport’s passenger terminal, air cargo precinct and on-airport business park is well advanced.

Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport is on schedule to begin operation in late 2026.
