The Western Sydney International Airport Experience Centre was officially opened today, giving the community a chance to discover how the Airport will help shape the future of Western Sydney.
Located on the Airport site, visitors to the Experience Centre will be taken through an interactive digital exhibition, where they will learn more about the region and its people, as well as the opportunities Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport will create.
Western Sydney Airport CEO Graham Millett said the Experience Centre has been created to provide a way of connecting the community with the Airport.
“We get a lot of positive feedback about Western Sydney International and the jobs and opportunities it will bring to the region,” Mr Millett said.
“We also receive a lot of questions from people who are curious about the story behind the Airport and how it will benefit them.
“The Experience Centre will give the chance to be a part of the Airport’s journey to community groups, school excursions and anyone who wants to learn more.”
Visitors to the Experience Centre will be taken through a series of interactive stop overs, including an augmented reality preview of Western Sydney International and an airport control room, where giant screens will provide insights and information about the $5.3 billion infrastructure project.
The final destination in the Experience Centre will be a viewing area with floor-to-ceiling glass panels, which will eventually provide first-class views of terminal and runway construction, due to kick off with major earthworks on the site in early 2020.
Mr Millett said that thousands of visitors are expected through the doors of the Experience Centre each year leading up to Western Sydney International’s opening in 2026.
“Our team has put a lot of work into ensuring the Experience Centre will appeal to visitors of all ages,” Mr Millett said.
“We can’t wait to welcome the community to the Experience Centre and I encourage everyone to come and see it for themselves.”
Work to build Western Sydney International began in September last year with initial earthworks. So far more than 1.5 million cubic metres of earth has been moved on the massive 1780-hectare site.
The Western Sydney International Airport Experience Centre is located on Eaton Road, Luddenham. It is free to visit and open to the public Monday to Thursday, from 10am to 4pm.
