Western Sydney Airport site preparation tender released

15 March 2018

WSA Co today called for Requests for Tender for the new airport's Early Earthworks package.

Chief Executive of WSA Co, Graham Millett, said interest in the package, which will involve initial earthworks and roadworks has been strong with more than a dozen companies qualifying through the earlier Registration of Interest process.

“We've had strong interest from across industry and we expect to have a highly-competitive tender process,”
Mr Millett said.

“This is another step forward for the project and our focus will now turn to assessing the responses with a view to shortlisting as soon as possible,” he said.

“We anticipate the award of the contract will be completed mid-year and we expect to see the works commencing in the third quarter of this year,” he said.

The Early Earthworks package includes:

  • Early bulk earthworks including cut and fill of 1.8 million cubic metres of material onsite
  • Drainage works
  • Partial realignment of Badgerys Creek Road
  • Construction of a new intersection at Elizabeth Drive, in collaboration with Roads and Maritime Services

Works to relocate major transmission lines on the airport site commenced in December last year and are scheduled for completion in mid-2019 ahead of major works commencing.

The airport will support more than 11,000 direct and indirect jobs during the construction phase and the company is targeting local employment of 30 per cent for all construction jobs.

One of the nation's most significant infrastructure projects in decades, the airport will open in 2026, providing international and domestic passenger and freight services and generating more than 28,000 jobs across Western Sydney during the first five years of operation.
