WSA Co today invited Registrations of Interest for the first and largest of the major works packages for the delivery of Western Sydney Airport, marking a significant milestone for the project.
The Bulk Earthworks and Airside Civil Works package will mark commencement of the main airport works program and includes the movement of more than 20 million cubic metres of earth and the construction of a 3.7 kilometre runway, capable of handling the world's largest passenger plane, the A380.
Acting Chief Executive Graham Millett said the significance of the package cannot be overstated.
“These major works will be pivotal to the delivery of a world-class airport in Western Sydney.
“Our aim is to provide the best passenger experience in Australia and one of the best in the world.
“The new airport will be the first choice for the one in ten Australian's living in Western Sydney who want access to air travel with much greater convenience.
“The project will inject billions into Western Sydney over the coming decades, creating more than 11,000 jobs during construction, and up to 50,000 jobs in the first 15 years of its operation”, he said.
The package also includes the construction of a full-length parallel taxiway, taxiway system, and apron taxi-lanes to facilitate the safe and efficient movement of aircraft as well as the construction of airside roadways and a drainage network.
Western Sydney Airport will commence operations in 2026 as a full-service airport facility offering domestic, international and freight services.
