Christmas delivery for sick children

19 November 2018

Liverpool City Council and Western Sydney Airport have partnered to deliver some Christmas cheer to the Liverpool Hospital Children’s Ward.

Staff from both organisations came together at Liverpool Hospital on Tuesday 18 December to donate gifts to the Ward’s sick children and their families.

“Christmas is a time of giving and sharing with those around us,” Liverpool City Council CEO Kiersten Fishburn said.

“It is in this giving spirit that Liverpool City Council is pleased to partner with Western Sydney Airport to do our bit for those in need at Christmas.”

Western Sydney Airport CEO Graham Millett said it was exciting for Airport staff to have the opportunity to support their local community.

“I’m really proud of how the Western Sydney Airport team jumped at the chance to donate gifts to families in our community who could use some cheer while their loved ones are unwell,” Mr Millett said.

“It’s humbling and inspiring to see how brave and positive these young people are, despite facing the prospect of spending Christmas away from home.”

Since 2014 Liverpool City Council staff have donated toys and books to the Children’s Ward. Liverpool-based Western Sydney Airport is taking part for the first time.

“Council is honoured to continue its tradition of donating gifts to the Liverpool Hospital Children’s Ward and delighted to partner with our neighbours, Western Sydney Airport, in our efforts to bring hope – and some smiles – to the Ward’s sick children and their families,” Ms Fishburn said.

Liverpool Hospital General Manager Karen McMenamin said she was grateful of the generosity shown by the Liverpool-based organisations.

“It is wonderful that we can build on our relationship with these organisations to do positive things for those in our community who need a helping hand,” Ms McMenamin said.

“We are extremely grateful and on behalf of our youngest patients, their families and Liverpool Hospital staff, I’d like to thank everyone at Liverpool City Council and Western Sydney Airport who has contributed to this wonderful cause.”
